| New Clothes had been recorded two whole years prior to its release
in January 2000. In that time, plenty of other songs had been written.
Further, a number of songs had existed that didn't end up on the solo
acoustic debut. I had a dilemma: I'd play a song at a show and someone
would ask "Is that on your CD?" The answer increasingly came back "no."
With plenty of songs and no budget, I was frustrated about what to do. Simultaneously, I was recording some demos with my friend John Brady. This was April of 2001. I thought it wise to at least preserve the songs, for posterity if nothing else. After recording 30 some songs in 2 days, I was on the road again. When I returned home months later, JB hooked me up with a cassette of what we had recorded. Listening back to the takes, it was evident that we'd captured some magic during those sessions. With that, it was decided to get the reels back on the machine. With a little overdubbing, we added some harmony, harmonica, slide guitar and such, sparingly to the mix. Nothing fancy. Just enough. The result: an honest, earthy collection of songs
